Hey, if you liked the Deus Invictus interview in this issue of Screams Of Abel Issue #34 please leave me feedback and let me know!

Deus Invictus

Deus Invictus

2007 unleashed metal upon Europe, upon North America, upon South America, probably upon Antarctica! The madness never stopped, and may it never stop.. ever.. However, the idea of a dual-lead growling death metal band took some serious notice in my book.. meet DEUS INVICTUS, America's answer to Harmonious Growling!

SOA: What made you decide to form a band and make quality metal?

Jeff: We were essentially sick of hearing the same hardcore over and over. Some of us actually grew up listening to bands like Believer, The Crucified, and other heavier Christian acts, so that really had an influence on our ideas for a band. We wanted to be able to reach the lost that other "christians" don't seem to focus on.

SOA: Apparently a lot of metal bands have appeared in the last year or so literally out of nowhere, therefore, how will you ensure that Deus Invictus will stand out from "among the crowd"?

Jeff: I guess what would set us out from the rest of the metal acts is that we strive for dynamics in our playing. You know, being in a death metal band is great..but with some of the bands out there, they never change what they do and it gets VERY boring. We are truly a band that has and will always evolve.

SOA: The name "Deus Invictus" I absolutely love; tell us the story behind it.

Jeff: Well the story isn't really as epic as I'd like it to be, hah. It all started when our first vocalist David was name searching and he just so happened to be listening to a Showdown album (the 1st). He came across the song name Deus Invictus, but he also noticed that it was translated totally wrong in the rest of the song's title. So after much researching, he returned to all of us and explained that the term really meant "Invincible or Unconquerable God". We decided that really got the point across that we were trying to make; that God was our anchor and couldn't be budged by the world or anyone else's made up ideals.

SOA: Your view on breakdowns.

Jeff: Nope. We aren't that big of fans of them. Come on people, they've sounded the EXACT same for the past 7 or 8 years. They're done with. A lot of people claim they want their audience interested, so they just throw them into the music. To me (and the rest of the guys as well), that's sort of a big cop-out. You can't just play what everyone wants to hear and try to sugar-coat things. You have to get down to business and come up with something inventive to others if you really want to make a lasting impression.

SOA: What is the one thing you want people to leave with after experiencing Deus Invictus in concert?

Jeff: A new found hope in their walk with Christ, and a pair of dirty underpants.

SOA: Future plans?

Jeff: We're hopefully going to start working on our first full-length. It will be self-made and self-produced due to the fact that we haven't necessarily been able to capture what we believe to be our "true sound" with other engineers helping us.

SOA: Final Comments?

Jeff: Croicky. Thanks for the interview, man; we really appreciate you letting us do this for your zine. Take care everyone who is reading this, and watch out for our album! Thanks for the support! God bless!
